Company history
1965
De Danske Sukkerfabrikker, DDS (Danisco), organise their membrane filtration activities in a separate division: DDS RO Division in Nakskov, Denmark. The division develops and manufactures membranes and membrane filtration systems, which are supplied into the dairy industry by the sister company Pasilac.

1989
DDS sells the RO Division to American DOW Filmtec. The facilities in Nakskov act as the European headquarter for DOW Filmtec and considerable resources are invested in development, test and manufacturing facilities.

1997
DOW Filmtec sells the Nakskov operation to the Danish investor 2L Holding and a group of leading employees. Danish Separation Systems, DSS, is established. The development and manufacturing of membranes and membrane filtration systems continues.

January 2000
DSS Silkeborg is established in the Danish city of Silkeborg. The mission was, and still is, to supply first class membrane filtration technology to the dairy industry world-wide. DSS Silkeborg starts its operation at Frichsvej 13 with 10 employees, each with 10 to 25 years individual experience with development, sales and engineering of membrane filtration technology for the international dairy industry. The company is owned by 2l Holding A/S, Managing Director Niels Osterland and Sales Director Orla Nissen.

October 2001
Staff is doubled to 20. More space for both offices and stocks are needed. The company moves to Frichsvej 21.

September 2002
The DSS facilities in Nakskov become part of the Alfa Laval Group under the name Alfa Laval Nakskov A/S.
 
DSS Silkeborg and Alfa Laval enter a partnership agreement for development and global distribution of Alfa Laval membrane products for dairy applications.

September 2002
DSS Silkeborg becomes an independent company owned by 2L Holding, DSS Silkeborg management and employees. DSS Silkeborg and Alfa Laval enter a partnership contract for development and global distribution of Alfa Laval membrane products for dairy applications.
 
April 2005
DSS buys land and building at Bergsøesvej 17. The premises were formerly the printing facility of the local newspaper. An almost 2 year long process of converting the building into the future domicile of DSS begins.

January 2006
The number of employees grows to 30. Wide distribution network established. More than 150 plants commissioned.
 
January 2007
The company moves to Bergsøesvej 17. Staff has grown to 33.

September 2007
The agreement with Alfa Laval expires. DSS starts to use membranes from other suppliers for systems and spares. At the same time, goals and strategy for growing the business by three are launched.
 
February 2008
To secure space for future expansion DSS buys an additional 10.000 m2 land adjacent to Bergsøesvej 17.  At the same time, the idea of establishing “Silkeborg Food Technology Center” is launched.
 
January 2010
DSS celebrates its 10th anniversary and can look back at 10 successful years.
 
April 2011
DSS Silkeborg ends its 11th year with the best result ever. The objective of growing the business in line with the “2007 plan” is reconfirmed by board and management.
 
July 2011
More than 450 plants commissioned, 40 employees, and accumulated sales 1,000,000,000 DKK.
DSS is considered the number one supplier of membrane filtration technology in Europe and many overseas markets as well.
